Birdwatching Holidays
If you love nature and birds, you will have a great time on birdwatching holidays. You will be guided to some of the best places to watch birds in the UK but you can also travel overseas and enjoy observing some of the most exotic bird species. But before you make any reservations, there are a few things you should consider including:
-
What birds you want to see. You would probably like to observe bird species you can’t see everyday in your backyard or city park. There are no guarantees that you will actually see the desired birds but if you want to increase your chances, you should obviously choose a tour that will take you to the place where those birds are most likely to be seen.
-
Where do you want to go. Do you want to combine your birdwatching trip with visiting other natural or/and historical attractions? Perhaps have a specific place in mind? If so, look for packages in the desired destination but please keep in mind that you may not be able to see all desired bird species. So before you make your final decision, consider your priorities.
-
When do you want to go. It isn’t just location that plays the key role in whether you will be able to see the desired birds or not. Just as important is the timing, especially for the migratory species.
-
Intensity of the tour. Some birdwatching tours can be quite physically strenuous because some of the most spectacular birds can be seen only in hard to reach areas, requiring plenty of walking on a rugged and uneven terrain. In other words, you may need to walk for hours in order to get to the best birdwatching spots. But there are also tours which are less intensive and also give you plenty of time for other activities and relaxation.
-
Size of the group. The smaller the group the better because the majority of the most magnificent birds are very shy. As a result, large groups don’t see much.
-
Professionalism and experience of the guide. It is highly important to be guided by a professional and experienced person who knows all the best spots for observing particular bird species. If you choose a reputable agency, you generally don’t have to worry about professionalism and experience of their staff but it is a good idea to read some reviews or ask other birdwatchers for an advice.
