Walking

The British countryside is hard to beat for beautiful scenery and variety of its landscape. We provide guided walking holidays in two very different areas.

Walks are taken at a gentle pace with time for breaks and to take in the surroundings. We also want you to take pleasure from your holiday in the knowledge that it is in balance with the environment and if you want to learn the basics of map reading and finding your way our short break is ideal and keeps navigation fun, simple and informal.

Our base is snuggled between Britain's first national park, The Peak District, and The National Forest. Our guided walks will enable you to appreciate these special areas of the countryside and to do your bit for the environment at the same time.

The Peak District provides some of the country's finest walking and outdoor experiences and is just north of our base. Shared transport will be provided for each guided walk, which will minimise the amount of traffic in the Peak District and help in a small way to reduce the environmental impact.

The National Forest is a forest in the making: it spans Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire and is located just south of our base. Our guided walks provide an opportunity for you to witness and enjoy its physical creation, which is aimed at mak ing a small but significant contribution to the UK's efforts to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide.

The guided walks and short breaks are led by an experienced and knowledgeable leader, committed to ensuring that your walking holiday offers the very best of the British countryside. With skill, experience and personality the leader will ensure things run smoothly and provide you with a rewarding experience.

Let our Instructor take you through every aspect of the basics from symbols, scales and grid references to ground shape, measuring distance, and using a compass. The perfect course to equip you with the basic skills to explore country walking with confidence.

Guided Walking in The Peak District

The Peak District was Britain's first national park and is one of the most popular walking areas in the country. During the week you will be taken on some classic walks and visit famous landscapes to include

The Hartington Ramble
Join us in the heart of the White Peak at Hartington, famous for its cheese.

You will follow the river Manifold to Thors cave over to the valley of Wetton returning to Hartington for cream teas via Mill Dale and Wolfscote dale.

The Dovedale Classic
A moderate 8 miles through the unique and timeless Dove Valley passing The 12 Apostles, famous Lovers Leap and The Tissington Spires.

Roaches Ramble
A days walk offering you a chance to taste the legends of the area from Lud`s Church to Three Shire heads and Flash and The Docksey Pool on The Roaches Ridge. The Roaches themselves are a freakish work of nature and well worth seeing. There are also rumoured to be wild wallabies in the area for us to spot. After tasting the fabulous scenery of the Staffordshire Moorlands we`ll taste the hot chocolate & cakes of a famous café.

Guided Walking in The National Forest and Beyond

The National Forest provides a unique opportunity to walk through ever-changing surroundings. If you relish the chance to experience this "forest in the making" our Guided walks will let you discover landscapes of contrasting countryside.

Five days will take you along peaceful byways to explore a rich mixture of scenery framed by woodland. Walks will be chosen depending on the abilities of the group but you can expect to be taken along the likes of Calke Abbey classic, Ivanhoe Way, the Bonnie Prince Charlie Way and visit the A ncient Capital of Mercia and Hermits cave and not forgetting the unique Fauld Crater Ramble

Seen from the air the mighty Fauld crater is a huge scar in the landscape and is the site of the largest explosion in Britain. 4,000 tons of high explosive bombs stored in former gypsum mines exploded leaving a crater 400 feet deep and around half a mile long. Your leader will have a lot to add to bring the history starkly alive. There is more to the walk than the crater however; it is a lovely and little visited part of our countryside.
