Multimedia, oil pastels, drawing and chalks - 5 Days

Using a variety of different drawing techniques learn new ways to look at intricate drawing studies and broader landscape pieces.

  • Day One (am) source material: we will go into the local town or landscape to photograph scenes and study available flora where possible

  • Day One (pm) preparing drawing surfaces: learn to loosen your approach to drawing by ripping and sticking different textures to your drawing surface while this is drying we will look at various drawing effects with different pencils, charcoal and graphite powder

  • Day Two (am) using techniques learned on Day One you will work into the surfaces created on Day One and make unusual and striking drawings

  • Day Two (pm) similarly to day one you will make a number of new surfaces, some texture and some smooth. We will bring colour in equation with inks, wood stain and varnish. This is a real progression from Day One producing stunning effects and opening up completely new possibilities

  • Day Three: working into all of the prepare surfaces from Day Two you will have the opportunity to see how fine line drawings on smooth coloured backgrounds differ enormously to working on the textured surfaces with oil pastels and chalks

  • Day Four: a complete change of direction you will learn to use oil pastels in a way you have never used the before. Building up layers of colour on canvas to provide vibrant and exciting landscapes you will see and utilise colour with a whole new approach

  • Day Five: depending on which technique you prefer you will be able to use the skills you have developed and choose which kind of piece you would like to make for the final day. Feel free to further explore the creation of an oil pastel piece or explore the possibilities of the multimedia surfaces with new confidence. The final piece will be on canvas.
