On this five day course Alison Daykin will teach you all the basics of spinning including selecting, sorting and preparing fleece. She will help you selct your first wheel, whether new or second hand and show you how to prepare it beofre you begin to spin. You will leave with the confidence to spin a singles yarn, ply those singles and finish your hanks. You will have th eunderstanding to be able to spin commercially prepared tops and a small selection of fancy yarns. 

All materials will be provided including spinning whee;s,but feel free to bring your own wheel if you want.

Design for the Terrified

Under the expert guidance of Alison Daykin, an award winning textile designer, you will be shown simple tricks and tips, over the five days of this course, that will soon have you producing your own exclusive designs, be it for weave, spinning, embroidery, patchworks and more. You don't need to be able to paint or draw to take part in this course, just have an open mind !
You will explore how colour can transform your work; discover how texture can make simple technique look completely different; learn how to produce pleasing stripes. You will go home with a range of swatches of your own design in whatever skill you enjoy and the confidence to put the "Wow" factor into all your future textile projects.

All materials and equipment are provided, but you may bring your own loom if you wish.

Learn to Drop Spindle

On this course you will learn the same as on the Beginners course, but using a drop spindle rather than a wheel. Alison will teach you all the basics of spinning, including selecting, sorting and preparing fleece. You will have the chance to try a variety of drop spindles which will help you find your ideal. You will leave with the confidence to be able to spin a singles yarn; ply those singles and finish your hanks and have the understanding to be able to spin commercially prepared tops and a small selection of fancy yarns. All materials and equipment are provided.
