Start and Build your Walking Experience

At Skylark Holidays we believe walking is one of the best ways to discover and to enjoy the world, its natural environment and its many cultures. We want to provide you with every opportunity we possibly can to fulfil your walking aspirations.

To begin with you may need help deciding how long you prefer to walk and how fast.
And there is no better way to talk about things than by joining one of our leisurely Walk and Talk weekends to listen to other people, to exchange views with them and to have fun finding your own walking pace.

Start thinking about how often you might do your walking and be sure to let us know if you like keeping track of your walks and whether you want to get awards or recognition for walking.

One reason we are passionate about Derbyshire is that it offers a wide variety of walking experiences for you to try. There are different routes, different surfaces and terrain which help you decide how you feel about hills so why not try a Multi-Walk Week .
If you are walking for health we will help you progress to wider opportunities and greater experience.

If you want to make sure that you don't get lost when out walking you can learn the basics of map reading on our Finding Your Way with a Map weekend.

Walk and Talk Weekend

based at the New Nath Hotel, near Cromford

Walk and Talk

A weekend to relax, socialise and take a leisurely walk through an area where there is plenty of interest to spark discussions. You'll be staying at the New Bath Hotel located within a section of the Derwent valley which has a wide mixture of interests, probably one of the best in Derbyshire. You will be walking through a World Heritage site of the Derwent Valley Mills, exploring a popular destination for outdoor activities at Black Rocks, absorbing nature with nearby Nature Reserves, and connecting with historical icons like Florence Nightingale.

Along the way you'll be able to chat freely about how walking inspires you or perhaps share tips on walking clothes and gear. At the end of the walks you'll be able to browse through book shops, relax with a pot of tea in tea rooms, or while away your time around village scenes.

The itinerary will take in a variety of landscapes and countryside areas to let you try different terrains and surfaces, to encounter the natural environment and local village life, and to brave the elements. Find what kind of walker you are and set your goals and preferences for future walks. You will not be asked to do anything you don't want to try and detailed routes and plan for each day will be discussed with you and agreed amongst the group. Outings could include well trodden Lathkill Dale, getting off-the-beaten track along the Dane Valley, managed walkways through Rosliston Forest, Grangewoods or Carver Rocks, or nice, level, old railway routes along the Monsal Trail.
